The manufacturing process of thermoplastic road marking paint involves several steps:
Resin Melting: The first step is to melt the resin in a dedicated heating vessel. The temperature is carefully controlled to prevent degradation of the resin.
Adding Pigments and Fillers: Once the resin is molten, pigments and fillers are added to the mixture. The choice of pigments and their concentration determines the paint's color and opacity.
Incorporating Plasticizers: Plasticizers are blended into the mixture to enhance the paint's flexibility and adhesion properties.
Curing Agent Addition: Curing agents are introduced to ensure the paint solidifies quickly upon application.
Mixing: The mixture is thoroughly stirred to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed. This step is critical for achieving consistent quality.
Glass Bead Dispersion: Glass beads are added to the paint mixture. They play a crucial role in providing retro-reflectivity, enhancing visibility at night.
Cooling and Packaging: Once the paint mixture is ready, it is allowed to cool and solidify. It is then packaged into bags or containers for distribution and use.
Surface Preparation: The road surface must be clean, dry, and free of any debris or contaminants before application. This ensures proper adhesion of the thermoplastic paint.
Heating: The thermoplastic paint is heated to a specific temperature, causing it to melt and become a liquid.
Application: The molten paint is then applied to the road surface using specialized equipment, such as thermoplastic road marking machines. This process allows for precise and uniform markings.
Glass Bead Application: Immediately after applying the paint, glass beads are sprinkled onto the surface to enhance reflectivity.
Cooling: The painted markings cool and solidify, forming a durable and long-lasting bond with the road.
Thermoplastic road marking paint, also called thermoplastic coating or hot melt marking paint, is like a powder paint. A hot melt kettle heats the road marking paint to 200°C, and then it is sprayed onto the road surface. After cooling, the paint is wear-resistant, reflective and bright. It is fast drying and can be driven over after a few minutes. To help with identification of road markings in the dark, reflective glass beads are added as they improve the brightness as well as durability.
